Marriage found in the autograph book of Hannah Poulter written by her brother Thomas James Poulter.
The Poulter family moved to Bountiful and tried to make a living, but soon joined a wagon train headed for California. They had a series of adventures before ending up in Carson City, Nevada. It was in this city that Thomas' mother died shortly after childbirth in 1868.
Thomas' father, Thomas Ambrose, took the children and returned to England, to visit his family. Returning from England the family was again looking in California for a place to live, but eventually, at the prompting of family members, returned to Utah.
They moved into a house, in Ogden, next door to Judge Aaron Farr and Thomas fell in love with the Judge's daughter Cordelia. The courtship continued and the couple was married on 1 May 1882 in Salt Lake. They had a reception dinner at the Judge's house.
Thomas and Cordelia settled in Ogden as a happy family, they were blessed with a healthy little boy on 22 September 1883, whom they named Charles Leon Poulter. Lee was soon followed by a little brother Thomas Arnold (Arnie) Poulter born 7 June 1887.
In 1888, Thomas and Cordelia found themselves anticipating an new addition to the family, but something went very wrong. Cordelia went into premature labor on 25 September 1888. The doctor could not stop the bleeding or save the little girl and both died. The baby was buried in Cordelia's arms.
The family was devastated. Lee had just turned five, and Arnie was a little over one. The children's heads were shaved in respect and Thomas commissioned Cordelia's headstone himself. He turned the raising of his two children over to Cordelia's parents, Aaron and Lucretia Farr.
Thomas regained his balance and met and married Louisa Elizabeth Lowe on 29 April 1891. They moved to Franklin, Idaho and named their first little girl Cordelia Elizabeth. Thomas would travel back to Utah every year to place flowers on Cordelia's grave and Louisa would cry the whole day. They then moved to Logan and stayed.
Thomas and Louisa eventually had nine children, Cordelia Elizabeth, b. 20 March 1892, Franklin, Idaho, d. 14 Jan 1986; Cornelius b. 29 Sep 1893, Franklin, Idaho, d. 13 April 1973; Verl b. 28 Aug 1897, Franklin, Idaho d. 31 Oct 1896; Lenore L. b. 10 Aug 1897, Franklin, Idaho, d. 18 Jul 1971; Manilla b. 18 December 1900, Franklin, Idaho d. 21 Jan 1973; Liluio b. 19 Feb 1902, Logan, Utah, d. 18 April 1974; Elva b. 17 Jul 1908, Logan, Utah; Afton, b. 26 Jul 1908 Logan, Utah, d. 25 July 1919, Logan, Utah; Eloise b. 5 Jul 1911, Logan, Utah.
