STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Dr. Grant Noel Farr, 65, formerly of Ogden, died Thursday, May 9, 1985, at a State College hospital of emphysema.

He was born Dec. 25, 1919. in Ogden, a son of Walter N. and Elizabeth Parry Farr.

He married Carmen Mendiola May 21. 1945, in Tacoma, Wash.

Mr. Farr attended schools in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School In 1937. He left Ogden after graduation to attend the University of California at Berkeley. He received a doctorate degree in economics while serving as an associate professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

He was a professor and in leadership of the economics department at Penn State University for several years. retiring due to ill health.

Surviving are his widow of State College, a son, Grant J. Farr, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas M. (Barbara) Broitman. Virginia; and one granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Wayne H. (Elizabeth) Braithwaite, Ogden. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Private funeral services and interment will be in State College on Sunday.

Wayne H. Braithwaite passed away of cancer on his wife's "twenty-second" leap year birthday and eight days short of his eighty-eight birthday at his home in South Ogden.

He was born March 8, 1924 in Manti, Utah to Clinton J. and Eva Hall Braithwaite. He married Elizabeth Farr in the Salt Lake LDS Temple sixty-five years ago.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served as MIA Superintendent, Stake Finance Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, and most recently loved being the greeter.

As an officer of the credit union, he served on the credit committee. Wayne was the local and the State President of the National Association of Letter Carriers and retired from the post office after many years of service. He enjoyed repairing watches for over fifty years, where he met lots of nice people.

He and his sweetheart enjoyed the Weber Waffies Travel Trailer Club and were snowbirds to Arizona for twenty years. His favorite times were being with his family.

Wayne is survived by his wife; sons, Jay (Jean) Braithwaite, Riverdale; and Lyle F. (Jill) Braithwaite, West Valley City; daughters, Ilene (Marlin) Hoffmann, Pleasant View; and Carol Wilson, South Ogden; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren with three more on the way; brothers, Wallace (Lora) Braithwaite; and Carl Braithwaite; and sister, Elga (Erick) Nicholls. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lynn and sisters, Maxine Petersen and Maurine Draper.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Boulevard. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment: Ogden City Cemetery.

Miriam Farr

Mrs. Miriam Rowbotham Farr, 53, 540 8th St, died yesterday in the Dee hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Farr was a lifelong resident of Ogden. She had been an active member of the L. D. S. 8th ward, serving as secretary of the Primary association and Relief society and as teacher in the Y. W. M. I. A. and Sunday school. She was also a visiting teacher in - the Relief society.

On Oct. 15, 1919, she was married to J. Roland Farr in the L. D. S. Salt Lake temple.

She was born July 19, 1898, in Ogden, a daughter of Richard and Alice Stillwell Rowbotham.

Surviving are her husband, thee sons, Norman R., Richard F. and Wendell A. Farr. Ogden: three grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters, Alvin and Bryan Rowbotham, Los Angeles; Mrs. Jeffery (Irene) Harper. Pleasant View; Mrs. Vernon W. (Celia) Taylor, Ogden: Mrs. James (Edith) Haymes, Tracy. Calif., and Mrs. Alex F. (Cassia) Wilson, Edmonston, Md.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p. m. at Lindquist and Sons Colonial funeral chapel, 3408 Washington Blvd. Bishop Elton W. Wardle of the L.D.S. 8th ward officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary tomorrow from 6 to 9 P. M. and Saturday prior to funeral services. Burial will be in Washington Heights Memorial park.
