To be buried in Laxfeld parish. To the high alter there, for tithes forgotten, 3s. 4d. To the repair of the parish church 6s. 8d. To the repair of the bell 3s 4d. To the repair of the Chapel of Our Lady in said parish and for arrears of some rent pertaining to said chapel 6s. 8d. To Our Lady's Gild in Laxfeld 3s. 4d. Bequests to the Friars of Dunwich and Orford (Suffolk). To my son, Master John Fyske, to sing for me a year after my decease, a sufficient stipend. To the poor in Laxfeld 10s. To the mending of foul ways 20s. To each godchild 12d. To each "Bell chyld of mine" 12d. To my daughter Johane 5 marks. To my daughter Maryon 6s. 8d. To Margaret Kempe a heifer. My house and land are to be sold, except a pightle bought of Nicholas Baas, to be sold to him at a "meone" price. My son Jeffrey is to have the first purchase and within 40s of any other. "Nevertheless I am otherwyse counselled by my other children wherefore finally I put it to the discrescion of my executors & specially my son Master John Fyske to say how my son Jeffrey shall pay." He who purchases my place is to have the stock of "beys" (bees) there lying and to pay 2 lbs. way to the light before the crucifix in Laxfeld church as long as the stock shall endure, if so much increase of wax come yearly off the said stock. Executors and residuary legatees: my sons Master John Fyske and Symond Fyske, to dispose to the health of my soul; and to each of them 6s. 8d.

JOHN FFISKE - Born at St. James', South Elmham around 1580, he married Anne, daughter of Robert Lawter (his second cousin), she died during a voyage to New England. An account of his son Rev. John ffiske describes his parents as "pious", he was a churchwarden at St. James, South Elmham in 1628. He died in May 1633 and was buried as "Goodman" Fyske [ ie. a Yeoman] at St. James, South Elmham on 14 May.

HON. WILLIAM FFISKE - Born in England in about 1613.  He arrived in America in 1637 with his brother John(216) and was made freeman in May, 1642. He married Bridget Matchet of Pulham, Norfolk, in 1643 at Salem, MA. Soon afterwards he moved to Wenham, MA, and was the first town clerk there, from 1643 to 1660. In 1647 he was elected representative to the General Court of the Commonwealth and was re-elected every year thereafter until 1652. He received liberty to keep an ordinary (public house) in 1643, and was granted a license to sell wine and 'strong water' in 1646. He died suddenly in 1654, possibly of some disease as he failed to make a will. Prior to his death he had served in all the public offices in the town. When his property was appraised, by Phineas Ffiske(172) among others, one of the items was a "sign with the sign post", presumably connected with his public house. The right to keep a public house was transferred to Phineas a few years later. After his death his wife married in 1661 Thomas Rix, a surgeon of Salem; they had one son, Theophilus born in 1665.

STEPHEN PAINE (1), of Great Ellingham, near Hingham, Norfolk County, England, was born c. 1600; emigrated to Hingham, Massachusetts Bay, with his wife, three children, and four servants, in the ship "Diligent" in 1638. He was made a freeman on June 6, 1639. He was one of the grantees of Governor Bradford in 1641 to the eight square miles, named Rehobeth, moving there with his family in 1643. In 1645, Stephen was elected Representative, or Deputy, to the Court at Plymouth and was re-elected continuously until 1660 and at various times afterwards until 1671. He was a miller by occupation, a large land owner, and a leading citizen. He married, first, Neele "Rose" Adcock (1602/3-1660), the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Eldred) Adcock of Attleborough, Norfolk County, England. He married, second, Alice (_______) Parker (d. 1682), the widow of William Parker, in 1662. He perhaps married, third, Elizabeth ( ), who was named as his wife in his will. Stephen died on August 16, 1679, and was buried on August 21, 1679. His will, dated July 18, 1679, was proven at Plymouth October 30, 1679, and his estate was valued at L6733:15s:10d. He outlived his children and we know the names of only two, Stephen and Nathaniel.
