ATWOOD,

Martha is listed in Samuel Hutchinson's administration along with her brother Levi Farr.

Martha was listed in the 1840 census of Cavendish, probably a widow by then, living alone and next to her father's house.

Marriage Notes:

MARRIAGE: Martha Patty Farr was his 3rd wife, and survived him. If she had not m. 2nd Mr. Atwood, she would have been able to collect Sam's Revolutionary War pension.

Mr. ATWOOD died 1 before 1840 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. Mr. ATWOOD married Martha FARR "Patty" about 1827 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, United States.

I do not believe that we know the given name of Mr. Atwood. He could just as easily be Caleb Atwood who lived near Martha Patty Farr.

Martha "Patty" FARR [Parents] [scrapbook] was christened 1, 2 on 18 Feb 1770 in Westford, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America. She died 3 on 23 Feb 1846 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. Patty married Mr. ATWOOD about 1827 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, United States.

Other marriages:
HUTCHINSON, Samuel Jr.

Martha is listed in Samuel Hutchinson's administration along with her brother Levi Farr.

Martha was listed in the 1840 census of Cavendish, probably a widow by then, living alone and next to her father's house.

Marriage Notes:

MARRIAGE: There was a single elderly man named Caleb Atwood (born between 1760-1770) living not far away from the Farr family. Perhaps Martha married him since her last name is Atwood in several documents.

Levi FARR [Parents] [scrapbook] was born in 1772. He died 1, 2 in May 1847 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. He was buried 3 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. Levi married 4 Mary BOARDMAN "Polly" 5 on 8 Oct 1815 in Hartford, Windsor, Vermont, United States.

Levi's marriage record in Hartford, Windsor, Vermont lists his bride as "Widow Polly Hazen" on Oct 8, 1815. They named their first child "William Hazen Farr". There was a Silas Hazen who married Mary Polly Boardman in Norwich, Windsor, Vermont in 1805. Silas Hazen died in Hartford, Winsdsor, Vermont in 1813. This is why I believe that Mary Polly Boardman is the "Widow Polly Hazen" who Married Levi Farr.

RESIDENCE: There were two aduls and six children. Two of the children would be Levi and Polly's and four of the children would be Polly and Silas'.

Mary "Polly" BOARDMAN [scrapbook] 1 was born 2, 3 on 6 Jun 1785 in Norwich, Windsor, Vermont, United States. She died 4 on 20 Aug 1822 in Hartford, Windsor, Vermont, United States. There is a Mary Polly Boardman that married Silas Hazen 11 Jan 1805 in Norwich, Windsor, Vermont. Silas died 8 Mar 1813 in Hartford, Windsor, Vermont where I believe she is the one that married Levi Farr  1 Oct 1815 in Hartford and named their first child "William Hazen Farr". Polly is listed as "Widow Polly Hazen" in the probate records of Silas Hazen Hartford District, Vermont.

RESIDENCE: Two adults and six children. Two children would be Levi and Polly's and four would be from Polly's previoius husband Silas Hazen.

They had the following children.

M i William Hazen FARR was born on 29 Aug 1816. He died on 3 Aug 1866.
  F ii
Hariot Newal FARR was born 1, 2 on 24 Apr 1818 in Hartford, Windsor, Vermont, United States.

He was buried 4 in New Berlin, Waukesha, Wisconsin, United States. Josiah married 5, 6 Laura ALLEN on 6 Apr 1806 in Charlestown, Sullivan, New Hampshire, United States.

Josiah resided 7 in 1840 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States.

He served as a Major in the War of 1812, Josiah and family moved from Cavendish to Brookfield (Waukesha County) Wisconsin around 1837. He was listed as 'head of  household' in Cavendish School District # 4 up to that year.   He purchased 80 acres of land from Section 33, Township # 6 [Vernon] on 23 Feb. 1841 for $250.00.  He must have removed to Milwaukee, as he and Laura sold the land the next year and he was listed as a Milwaukee resident in the 1840 census.

Laura ALLEN was born 1, 2, 3, 4 on 22 Nov 1786 in Charlestown, Sullivan, New Hampshire, United States. She died 5, 6 on 4 Oct 1846 in Wisconsin, United States.   M iii Charles FARR was born on 22 Aug 1819. He died on 1 Oct 1859.

Nathaniel Russell FARR [Parents] [scrapbook] 1, 2 was born in 1781 in of New Ipswich, Hillsborough, New Hampshire, United States. He died 3, 4 on 12 Nov 1840 in Proctorsville, Windsor, Vermont, United States. He was buried 5 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. Nathaniel was also known as Russell Farr. He resided 7 in 1810 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. He resided 8 in 1820 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. He resided 9 in 1830 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States. He resided 10 in 1840 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont, United States.

From the research of Linda Farr Welch:

Often confused with his father, he dropped his first name and went by the name of Russell Farr.  In the 1880 census of Cavendish, Nathaniel's daughter Mary told the census taker that her father was born in Massachusetts, and her mother in New Hampshire. Perhaps Nathaniel was born in Westford before his father moved to New Ipswich, and his birth was not recorded.

From the List of Cavendish Schools, Heads of Families with Children between ages 4-18, we surmise that he had four children.

In 1828, The District # 8  (Gilchrist school district):  The Farr farm was occupied by Nathaniel R. Farr, where two children of the family were attending school in the district at that time.

Russell Farr had two children and was living in Proctorsville, District #2 in 1836.   From 1837-8, two children were attending District #8 school from Nathaniel R. Farr's family, as well.

Mr. Farr died at Cavendish, 12 Nov., 1840, and is buried in the Farr Family Plot.

In the 1843-4 School record list of Baltimore, Vt., we find the Widow Polly Farr with two school-age children, living here under the names of Foster and Horace Farr.

In the year 1846, Widow Polly Farr was listed as head of the household with two children at school, Foster Farr, and Clark Spaulding living in District # 8, the Gilchrist school.  It is believed that she was living with her sister-in-law, Patty Hutchinson and inherited the place when Patty died in 1846.  In 1846, her oldest son Horace was already married and living in Baltimore.
