Franklin Don Wixom, age 89, of Paul, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, from causes incident to old age.

Don was born March 13, 1918, in Springdale, Idaho, to Franklin David and Zella Jane Walters Wixom. His family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, when he was 4 years old and, when he was 12, to Blackfoot. He graduated from Blackfoot High School and in 1939, his family moved to Burley. He attended Utah State University until he joined the Army during World War II. After receiving a medical discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University.

Don married Zoe Marion Farr on June 22, 1951, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They moved to Arco, where he taught seminary, and then to Blackfoot, where he also taught seminary. They moved to Burley in 1954, and he worked for Soil Conservation in the Mini-Cassia area. In 1957, he homesteaded a VA farm north of Paul, where he and Zoe have lived ever since. Don taught seventh and eighth grade reading and history, first at the Paul Junior High School, and then at West Minico Junior High from 1960 to 1974, when he retired as a disabled veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Zoe; his children, Raymond D. Wixom, Marion J. McCardell and Lynn D. Wixom; 15 grandchildren; and 4.75 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Clyde Wixom, Marjorie Larsen, Helen Ivy, VernaDean King and Paul Wixom. He was preceded in death by three sisters, who died in childhood, and two grandsons, who died in infancy.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the Paul LDS Stake Center, 424 W. Ellis St., with Bishop Douglas D. Hartley officiating. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery with military rites provided by the Paul American Legion, Post No. 77. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday (this evening) at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley, and from noon until 12:45 p.m. Monday at the church.

Zoe Marion Farr Wixom died on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, her residence since February 2008. Before moving to Utah, she resided at 650 North 400 West in Paul, Idaho.

Zoe was born to Raymond Valasco and Almira (Shurtliff) Farr on January 3, 1918 in Ogden, Utah, where she and her three sisters were raised.

Early schooling was in Mound Fort School, Ogden High School, and Weber Junior College in Ogden.

A very special interest of this period was classical dancing. She studied and performed ballet dancing, toe dancing, and tap dancing at the Reed School of Dance in Ogden. She later danced with the USO and enjoyed dancing all her life. She fulfilled an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New England States Mission in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1940-1942.

After she returned home, she worked as a stenographer at the Quartermaster Depot in Ogden, until World War II ended. She then worked as a stenographer in the Foreign Service Division of the Department of State in Berlin, Germany. After about a year, she returned home to complete her college work.

She earned a BS degree from Brigham Young University in 1948, and a MS degree in business from New York University in 1950. After graduating from NYU she taught at Fairmont State College in Fairmont, West Virginia. She married Franklin Don Wixom on June 22, 1951 in the Idaho Falls Temple. After her marriage to Don, Zoe moved to Idaho, living first in Arco, then Blackfoot, and then Burley.

With other World War II Veterans, they homesteaded a Veteran farm in northern Minidoka County in 1957, where they developed a family farm and dairy. Zoe lived there until Don's death in 2008. Zoe taught school at Burley Junior High School, Minico High School, and East Minico Junior High School. In 1980, she retired and later joined the Idaho Retired Teachers.

Zoe enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, genealogy, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was extremely helpful in her child-ren's times of need, traveling to and from Germany and Utah to care for her grandchildren. She worked on family history throughout her life and, with her sisters, completed a book of family history.

Zoe is survived by her three children, Raymond D. Wixom (Irene), Marion J. Wixom McCardell (Steve), and Lynn D. Wixom (Tedi) all of Salt Lake City, Utah; 15 living grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marjorie F. Hall of Newcastle, California; and Marilyn F. Freeman of Ogden, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Leah F. Merrell.

The Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 in the Paul Stake Center, 424 West Ellis Street, Paul, with Bishop Douglas D. Hartley officiating.

Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th Street, Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Church.
