Verdell Farr Palmer, 89, passed away in Provo, UT on Easter morning, April 24, 2011.

She was born June 21, 1921, the third of five children to Zechariah and Pearl Jarvis Farr in Huntington, UT. She grew up in Bunkerville, NV, Holbrook and St. Johns, AZ.

The family moved to Farmington, NM, when Verdell was eighteen, where she met Miles Stewart Palmer. They married August 15, 1940 in The Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They made their home in Farmington, NM for forty years and then retired to 1074 Ash Avenue in Provo, UT in 1980. Verdell and Miles created a loving home for their ten children and drew many others into the warmth of their home.

Among Verdell's many gifts were a listening ear and an understanding heart. She was a favorite to many nieces and nephews. When her children were all in school, she worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Palmer and Frost.

She gave devoted service throughout her life as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served many years as President of the Young Women, choir and music director, and Relief Society teacher. She and Miles served together as Young Stake missionaries, Relief Society president and Branch President to the Jicarilla Apache Branch at Dulce, NM and then as temple workers for more than a decade in the Provo, UT Temple.

Verdell was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, sons Stewart and Milton, granddaughter Norrie Plumb, great-grandsons Joshua Higgins and Joshua Plumb, great-granddaughter Mia Dodge, her brother and two sisters. She is survived by children Gail (Don) Higgins of Pocatello, ID; Myra (Paul) Plumb, of London, Ontario, Canada; Kathleen (Ted) Dodge of St. George, UT; Bruce (Angie) Palmer of Pocatello, ID; Susan (Joe) Baker of Cedar City, UT; Michael (Faith) Palmer of Idaho Falls, ID; Dan (Shenole) Palmer of Provo, UT; and David (Sheri) Palmer of Pleasant Grove, UT; sixty grandchildren; eighty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister Maxine Brozo; and brother-in-law Joe Palmer.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oak Hills Seventh Ward Chapel, 1038 North 1200 East, Provo. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 and at the Church on Thursday morning from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m.
Interment: Orem City Cemetery.

Mary Farr, daughter of Zechariah Farr and Pearl Jarvis, was born September 1, 1923, in Holbrook, Arizona. She died July 28, 2008, in Provo, Utah after a long illness.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Theodore (Ted) Harris. Survivors include her 2 sisters, sister-in-law, 10 children, 50 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren.

Mary and Ted were married on November 20, 1942, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. While her husband served in Europe during World War II, Mary invested in land holdings which made for a beneficial contribution to life after the war was over. She was insightful to opportunity and was successful in business ownership and realty.

Mary was a wonderful counselor and listener to those cast down in spirit. Her influence and concern for those seeking help was immeasurable. She enjoyed working as a precinct committee chairman and judge of elections. She served actively in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including a full-time mission with her husband in St. Louis, Missouri.

Her life was filled with music and she encouraged her children in the study of the arts and literature. She was an avid reader and writer an enjoyed the art of literary expression. She wrote the life stories of her husband's parents, John Calvin and Elizabeth Harris, and of her parents, Zechariah and Pearl Jarvis Farr, as well as her own life story. She combined her gift with words with her husband's love of photography and together they produced many beautiful works.
Mary fought a courageous battle till her last breath. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Courtyard at Jamestown and Trinity Mission for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lindon Stake Center, (1600 North 1030 West Orem). Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, and also Saturday one hour prior to the services at the stake center. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
