She originally attended St. Mark Lutheran Church in Dunedin and more recently Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Sarasota and was involved in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was greatly loved by many friends and family and will be deeply missed. Ray A. Farr, 88, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Burlington and Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009. Born Jan. 30, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Frank and Nell Graff Farr. On July 27, 1967, he married Bernice Ringblum in Burlington. Mr. Farr worked for McKesson Chemical Co., after moving to Burlington from San Diego, Calif., in 1966. He retired in 1986 and moved to Mesa. He was a 1940 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps until 1945. He was a member of the Community Church of New Thought in Mesa. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and conversation.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy Kahl of El Cajon, Calif., and Kathy Sesma of Palm Springs, Calif.; one son, Ray C. Farr of New Mexico; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, George Farr of Bolivar, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

The graveside memorial service for Mr. Farr will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Family and friends should meet at 12:45 p.m. at the Aspen Grove Cemetery office, 2043 Sunnyside Ave.

Born on May 9, 1920, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl Fredrick and Christine Laurina Nielsen Ringblum. She married Ray Allen Farr on July 29, 1967, in Burlington, Iowa. He died on October 28, 2009.

Bernice worked as an office clerk and office manager. She retired from McKesson Chemical Co. in Burlington. She and Ray loved to spend summers in their Canadian cabin. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her dog, "Shadow". She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Community Church of New Thought in Mesa, Arizona.

She is survived by one step-son, Ray C. Farr of New Mexico; two step-daughters, Judy Kahl of El Cajon, California and Kathy Sesma of Palm Springs, California; brother-in-law, George Farr of Bolivar, Missouri; ten nieces and nephews; seven step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren and special friends, Carolyn Anderson and Eleanor Childs of Mesa, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; three brothers, Charles, Richard and James; and one sister, Mildred.
Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

Malcolm "Mike" Farr

Malcolm "Mike" Farr, 76, of Salem, died Friday, March 31, 1995, at 2:45 a.m. at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born April 1, 1918, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Frank and Nellie Graff Farr. On Aug. 5, 1939, in Davenport, he married Lucille Ross, who survives.

He was a 1936 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School.

He was formerly employed by the city of Mt. Pleasant. He was employed as a pipefitter at Hastings, Neb. and was employed by the former Benesh Plumbing Company of Mt. Pleasant until 1948 when he started the Salem Plumbing and Heating Company, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the former Salem Methodist Church and attended the Open Bible Church in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Salem American Legion.

He served in WW II in the U.S. Naval Air Corps, and also served on the Salem School Board and Salem Town Council.

He is also survived by one daughter, Connie Weatherman of Salem; one son, James Farr of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two brothers, George Farr of Salem and Ray Farr of Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one bother, Roger.

Open visitation will begin from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church, with Rev. Dave Legge officiating. Interment will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his name to the Salem Congregational Church or the Salem Fire Department.

Elsie Lucille Farr, 92, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

Born May 9, 1915, near Wayland, she was the daughter of Arch and Effie Smith Ross. On Aug. 5, 1939, she married Malcolm D. Farr in Davenport.

Mrs. Farr was a homemaker and worked at Hope Haven as a teacher aide for 10 years. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1933. She was a member of Salem Methodist Church and attended Open Bible Church in Mount Pleasant. She was a member of Salem Kitchen Band and a Hawkeye basketball fan. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, cooking and bird watching.

Survivors include one son, Jim Farr of Burlington; one daughter, Connie Weatherman of Salem; two sisters, Hope Hoyt and Virginia Boyd, both of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and four brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Farr will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Congregational Church with the Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for Salem Library Building Trust Fund.

William Albert Sizer was born November 11, 18150 in Oneida county, New York. At the age of 18 years, he moved with his parents to Iowa. He was married at Jackson, Minnesota, November 8, 1889 to Miss Mary Christensen. They made their home in town for the next several years where Mr. Sizer followed his trade as a paper hanger. In 1894, they came to the Flathead and have lived here for the past 48 years. Mr. Sizer passed away at his home near Foy's Lake June 30, 1942 at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Sizer, and one son Harry Sizer, both of Kalispell.
