George W. Farr Died On Ill's 72nd Birthday

George W. Farr passed away Thursday monring at 3:25, D. S. T., at his home on South Main Street. He had been suffering with gangrene of the left foot. It was caused by a diabetic trouble and hardening of the arteries. Two years ago last winter he chiiled his foot working on cutting down a tree.
He was born in the house he spent his life in on June 21, 1862, and was 72 years old the day he died. He was the son of the late Barton D, and Lucy Gilson Farr. On August 16, 1862 he was united in marriage to Margaret Bell Lynch, who survives him.
Four children were born, two boys and two girls. Willis died in infancy after living four days, Lucy died in 1902, Walter of town, and Ellen of Brighton Mass, survive him. His only brother, Edward Farr, died Feb. 14, 1931. He also has a niece on his brothers . side, Mrs. Ina Shaw.
He received his education by, a few terms at the little school house that sat near the Waterford and St. Johnsbury line and finished his schooling at the public schools on Summer street.
Mr. Farr was a well known figure on the streets in the summer months. He raised an abundance of garden truck and vegetables. He took great pains to raise the, best that was possible in order to please his customers. He worked intermittently many years for the E. and T. Fairbanks and Co. He also at one time ran a job team in town.
Funeral services were conducted at the house on South Main street Saturday at 1:00 E. S. T., Minister Grant of East St. Johnsbury officiating at the home and grave. A most impressive Red Men's burial service was held at the grave. It included the releasing of a homing pigeon. The ritual was ably rendered by John Milne of Barre, a Red Man state officer. Interment was at his lot in the cemetery at Iassumpsic, Vt.
Those from out of town for the funeral were: Willie and Vaun Lynch of Colebrook, N. H.; Mrs. Celia Gaskell of West Burke; Mr. and Mrs. George Woods, Mrs, Lizzie Shores, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennv. and Mrs. Ralph Shastney, all of East St. Johnsbury.
