William E. Farr, Jr., passed away Feb. 28, 2012 at the family home in Vancouver, WA in his 100th year. Known to all as "Bill", he was born Sept. 12, 1912 on Vashon Island in Puget Sound to Katherine and William E. Farr, Sr. The family moved to Vancouver in 1918 and Bill remained here for the rest of his long life.
Blessed with an adventuresome and restless spirit, Bill dropped out of school and went to sea on a merchant ship, visiting any number of ports of call in the Orient. He graduated from Vancouver High School at age 24. Deciding to continue his education, he enrolled at Clark College which was just then getting started.
In the summer of 1937, Bill met Margaret Asher and they were married on Jan. 4, 1938 upon receiving news that Bill had been offered a position with the Vancouver Fire Department. After 25 years with the department, Bill retired in 1962, becoming Clark Count deputy assessor for nine years. He continued to work for Wineberg Properties and Portland Meadows, retiring in 1983 as general manager.
Bill and Margaret raised four boys, William, Lee, Jan, and Kim, first on 'L' Street and then in Hazel Dell. Antiques became a passion for both and the focus of their lives.
Bill was a family man, devoted to his wife, Margaret and supporting his "boys". For all of us, he was a
model as to how to be a man, husband, and father.
A member of the Masonic Order, Bill is survived by his sons, two honorary daughters, Cerise Jolliver and Tomala Paulson; three daughters-in-law, Marianne, Chim, and Amy; six grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Florica Alda and Billie Harden for the extraordinary care given Father in his last years.
Burial will take place at Maryhill, WA where Bill will join Margaret once again to be united-this time forever.
