Asa Farr it appears probably did have a son named Walter. I found an article on Fulton history in the Canajoharie NY Courier Standard Enterprise, 5 Oct 1976 about a rare document in the US Army History Collection in which Walter Farr was commissioned a paymaster of the Michigan State Militia in 1836. It mentions Dr. Alexander Ayres, who practiced medicine in early Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI. His wife was Harriet Farr, daughter of Asa Farr, clockmaker.

Also, in "Hudson Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs", Vol 3. by Cuyler Reynolds (1911), pgs 1318-1319, there is a piece on the Ayres family with Dr. Alexander Ayres in it. Here is the relevant part: "He married Harriet, born 1812, died 1886; daughter of Asa and Sarah (Conklin) Farr. Her brother Walter died in Michigan; her brother Wallace died in Washington D.C.; and her sister died at Ft. Plain."


Mohawk Courier of Little Falls, NY on fultonhistory, from an August 1837 issue, exact date unknown. It gives the date of his death:DIED At Pontiac, Michigan, on the 24th ult. [July], after a short illness, Mr. Walter Farr, son of Asa Farr of Manheim, merchant -- at the early age of 22.
The remainder of the obit is a tribute to his character, and a poem.
So, Walter was born about 1815. The death date fits with the probate document, which states he died sometime in the month of July 1837.

Walter A. Farr passed away at his farm residence in Vermontville on March 3rd and was buried on the 5th in Woodlawn Cemetery by Masonic Lodge No. 232. Deceased was born in New York, Livingston County, July 15th, 1827. He came to Michigan at the age of seventeen, settling in Branch County, later moving to St. Joseph County.
On January 5th, 1851 was united in marriage to Miss Katherine McKnight, moving to Vermontville in 1853. The couple have closely followed the contract, "until death do us part," never being separated for a period longer than one week in fifty-eight years. He joined the Masonic Lodge in Vermontville in 1869 and was soon after elected Tyler and guarded the inner door for near twenty years faithfully through sunshine and storms.
Mr. Farr had been in failing health for the past few years. He is survived besides his widow, by three children, Charles E. Farr, Mrs. Clara E. Dorman and Miss Myrtle Farr, five grandchildren and two great grand children. One daughter Delia died in 1879. A good man has gone to his reward.

Catharine M. McKnight was born, November 4, 1834, in Clarondon Township, Orleans County, New York State. She came to Michigan with her parents when nine years old and settled in Nattuay Township, St. Joseph County. She was married to Walter A. Farr in 1851 and moved to Vermontville, Eaton County in 1853 having lived on the same farm till her death with the exception of a few years spent in the village of Vermontville to school her youngest daughter Myrtie and grandson, Ray Briggs.
She was the mother of four children. Charles, Clara, Delia and Myrtie. Delia died in 1879; Myrtie in 1910; her husband, Mr. Farr, died in 1909. Since the death of her daughter Myrtie, her daughter Clara and husband moved on the farm and she has lived with them.
She passed away Tuesday, the 17th the funeral being held at the house Thursday at half past one. She was laid at rest in Woodlawn. She is survived by two children, five grand children and seven great grand children.
We miss thee from our home dear mother; we miss thee from thy place. A shadow o'er our life is cast; we miss the sunshine of thy face.
We miss thee kind and willing hand, thee fond and earnest care, our house is dark without thee, we miss thee everywhere.
