DARLING -- Emeretta Edith Farr, was born in Weatherford, OK, May 24, 1906, to Leon N. Farr and Addie Root Farr. She passed away quietly on May 17 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. A gifted student, she received her degree from Fairmont College (later University of Wichita) in 1925, at the remarkable age of 19. While there, she was a charter member of the Zeta Chapter of Omega Upsilon, National Honorary Expression Sorority, and was President of the chapter for 2 terms. She then took a position as Instructor in English at the Shawnee, OK High School, where she endeared herself by her many lovable qualities and intellectual attainments. Her marriage, in 1927 to Sturgis Williams Darling, was the culmination of a romance, which began when both were students at Kingfisher College, where she spent her freshman year majoring in Latin and English. His career with Texaco took them to many locations throughout the United States. Retirement brought their return to Oklahoma, where they built their home, named "StoneWooD," on Lake Tenkiller. Ever gracious as well as learned, Mrs. Darling was a member of P.E.O., D.A.R., Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims and Colonial Dames-XVII Century of which she served as Oklahoma State President. Her life was rich with family and friends and her legacy will transcend the generations. Mrs. Darling was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years; brothers, Hugh and Doane Farr; sister, Helen Farr Flanary and her son, Doane Farr Darling. Surviving are her sons, Sturgis Williams Darling (Marilynn), Laguna Niguel, CA and Forrester Bushnell Darling (Patricia), Mercer Island, WA; Doane's widow, Eugenia Darling; and many nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren are Lynette (Doug) Ubel, Allison Darling-Foster and Sturgis Williams Darling III, all of Kansas City, Amy (Brian) Ruyak and Jeffrey Emerson Darling (Wendy), both of Columbus, OH. Great-grandchildren are Kayla and Brandon Ubel, Amanda and Alex Foster and Anthony and Nicholas Ruyak. Grandchildren by marriage are Greg (Valerie) and Mark Boyd (Carol) and Mark (Robin) and Matthew Krein. A memorial service will be held at St. Simeon's Episcopal Chapel, 3701 N. Cincinnati in Tulsa at 10 a.m., Friday, May 23. Honorary pallbearers will be her sisters in P.E.O. She will lie in state from Thursday morning until Saturday morning at the Stanley Lee Funeral Home, 112 South 7th Street, Clinton, OK. Graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 24, at the Clinton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Chapter CU of P.E.O. in Tulsa, or the Philbrook Museum of Art, 2727 South Rockford Road, Tulsa, OK.

Mary Katherine Farr Harrison, 88, died March 12 at Norman Regional Hospital following a short illness.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dwight Helt officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home. Mary K. was born November 28, 1920, in Clinton to Doane and Ione Farr. She grew up in Clinton and attended Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Missouri, and the University of Oklahoma, graduating from OU in 1942 with a Bachelor's degree in physical education with an emphasis on dance. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. While at OU, she obtained her pilot license.

She married Roger Harrison in Clinton on July 4, 1942. After Roger was discharged from the service in 1946, they made their home in Altus. She taught several classes of dance in Altus (ballroom and square dancing, tap and ballet) and also taught physical education at Altus High School. She and Roger moved to Norman in 1962.

In Norman she was an enthusiastic supporter of the University of Oklahoma, especially the OU School of Dance, helping to found the Dance Partners support group in 2002. She was on the Board of Visitors of the College of Fine Arts at OU and was a member of the President's Associates Program since its beginning in 1979. She was an OU football season ticket holder for over 50 years. Mary K. was also active in her community. She served on Governor Bellmon's Council on Physical Fitness. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. For many years, she was a member of the Altar Guild at St. John's Episcopal Church and the Assistance League of Norman. She enjoyed traveling and went on her first long trip with her family to the World's Fair in Chicago in 1933. She went on her first overseas trip to Havana, Cuba, in 1940. When at OU, she participated in the Experiment in International Living for one summer in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she became fluent in Spanish. She and Roger traveled extensively, with visits that included Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America. Many of these trips were to play golf—she was an avid golfer and was very proud of having made not just one, but TWO holes-in-one. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Roger.

She is survived by her brother Jack Farr and his wife Genevieve of Muskogee; three sons, Dr. Roger Harrison Jr. and wife Kathy of Norman, Doane Harrison and wife Julie of Norman, and John Harrison of Edmond; eight grandchildren, Dr. Mike Harrison and wife Terra of Madison, Wisconsin, Zack Harrison of Norman, Holly Harrison of Dallas, Beth Harrison of Denver, Emily Harrison Brink and husband Curtis of Denver, Jordan Harrison and wife Chelsey of Atlanta, Meghan Harrison of McKinney, Texas, and Caitlin Harrison of Norman. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to the OU Foundation Dance Partners Fund, OU School of Dance, 560 Parrington Oval, Room 1000, Norman, OK 73019.
