An Algernon Sidney Wheaton, born in New York, died in San Francisco about 18 Mar 1855. He was buried in Yerba Buena Cemetery, which no longer exists. His age was 38 y 7 mo of age according to the record, which would make him born about 1816.
Here is the death notice for Algernon S. Wheaton, found in California Farmer and Journal of Useful Sciences, Vol. 3, No. 12, 22 Mar 1855:
On the 16th March, in this city, of typhoid fever, Algernon S. Wheaton, formerly of Lisle, NY, aged 38 years.
Apparently a son, also named Algernon Sidney Wheaton, died in San Francisco about 8 Sep 1856, age 2 y 8mo 23 d. So, he was born about 1853. He was also buried in Yerba Buena Cemetery.
Olive L Wheaton {written in the census as "Olivill" Wheaton] was recorded in the 1860 census of San Francisco, with her son Horace E Wheaton. She is 38 years old and born in Vermont. So, born about 1822. Horace died in late 1865 in San Francisco. Here is one death notice, in the San Francisco Examiner, 28 Dec 1865:
Wheaton - Drowned, on the morning of Dec 22th near Black Point, Horace E Wheaton, aged 23 yrs, 3 mo, and 20 days.
A second death notice, in the Sacramento Daily Union 28 Dec 1865 gives an important piece of information:
Horace E Wheaton, son of Mrs. George W. Stevens of this city, while endeavoring to catch a boy who was swimming out into the bay this morning, upset the boat and was drowned, near Black Point.
His death notice shows that his mother had remarried, to George W. Stevens. This is corroborated by San Francisco city directories of the time:
