Harold T. Farr, 78, 902 S. Harrison, Mount Pleasant, died of an apparent heart attack at 3:34 a.m. Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Henry County Health Center.

Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Leslie W. and Sebyl M. Dodds Farr. On Sept. 23, 1942, he married Maxine B. Schadt in Kirksville, Mo.

Mr. Farr worked construction in Henry and Lee counties most of his life. He retired after 10 years with Cessford Construction Co.

He attended Fairfield schools and was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife; one son, William H. Farr of rural Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Virgil Farr of Dunedin, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one sister.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation. The body has been cremated.

A memorial service for Mr. Farr will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Weir Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert D. Cook officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, southeast of Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for Henry County Health Center.

Mrs. Farr was a sales clerk at the former Western Auto Store in Mount Pleasant for 19 years. She had also worked at the Garretson Equipment Company.
Survivors include one son, William Farr of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, Jim Schadt of Mount Pleasant and Walter Schadt of Orleans, Ind.; one sister, Darlene Gholson of Merrimac, rural Trenton; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two brothers, and two sisters.
There will be no visitation.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Farr will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Mount Pleasant.

CABLE-FARR, Norma R. wife of Virgil Farr, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30th, 2012, age 90. She was pre-deceased by her dear parents, Robert and Dorothy Addis; brother, Paul Addis, first husband, Ben Cable and son, Robert. She is survived by her brother, Samuel Addis and his wife, Lois and son, Jack Cable and his wife, Ginny. She also is survived by 5 grandchildren as well as 7 cherished great- grandchildren. Norma was a devout Christian who blessed all who knew her with her bright smile and outgoing personality. She originally attended St. Mark Lutheran Church in Dunedin and more recently Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Sarasota and was involved in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was greatly loved by many friends and family and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Florida Gulf Coast 14010 Roosevelt Blvd., Ste 709, Clearwater, FL 33762. Ray A. Farr, 88, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Burlington and Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009. Born Jan. 30, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Frank and Nell Graff Farr. On July 27, 1967, he married Bernice Ringblum in Burlington. Mr. Farr worked for McKesson Chemical Co., after moving to Burlington from San Diego, Calif., in 1966. He retired in 1986 and moved to Mesa. He was a 1940 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps until 1945. He was a member of the Community Church of New Thought in Mesa. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and conversation.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy Kahl of El Cajon, Calif., and Kathy Sesma of Palm Springs, Calif.; one son, Ray C. Farr of New Mexico; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, George Farr of Bolivar, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

The graveside memorial service for Mr. Farr will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Family and friends should meet at 12:45 p.m. at the Aspen Grove Cemetery office, 2043 Sunnyside Ave.

Born on May 9, 1920, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl Fredrick and Christine Laurina Nielsen Ringblum. She married Ray Allen Farr on July 29, 1967, in Burlington, Iowa. He died on October 28, 2009.

Bernice worked as an office clerk and office manager. She retired from McKesson Chemical Co. in Burlington. She and Ray loved to spend summers in their Canadian cabin. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her dog, "Shadow". She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Community Church of New Thought in Mesa, Arizona.

She is survived by one step-son, Ray C. Farr of New Mexico; two step-daughters, Judy Kahl of El Cajon, California and Kathy Sesma of Palm Springs, California; brother-in-law, George Farr of Bolivar, Missouri; ten nieces and nephews; seven step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren and special friends, Carolyn Anderson and Eleanor Childs of Mesa, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; three brothers, Charles, Richard and James; and one sister, Mildred.
Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

Malcolm "Mike" Farr

Malcolm "Mike" Farr, 76, of Salem, died Friday, March 31, 1995, at 2:45 a.m. at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born April 1, 1918, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Frank and Nellie Graff Farr. On Aug. 5, 1939, in Davenport, he married Lucille Ross, who survives.

He was a 1936 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School.

He was formerly employed by the city of Mt. Pleasant. He was employed as a pipefitter at Hastings, Neb. and was employed by the former Benesh Plumbing Company of Mt. Pleasant until 1948 when he started the Salem Plumbing and Heating Company, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the former Salem Methodist Church and attended the Open Bible Church in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Salem American Legion.

He served in WW II in the U.S. Naval Air Corps, and also served on the Salem School Board and Salem Town Council.

He is also survived by one daughter, Connie Weatherman of Salem; one son, James Farr of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two brothers, George Farr of Salem and Ray Farr of Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one bother, Roger.

Open visitation will begin from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church, with Rev. Dave Legge officiating. Interment will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his name to the Salem Congregational Church or the Salem Fire Department.

Elsie Lucille Farr, 92, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

Born May 9, 1915, near Wayland, she was the daughter of Arch and Effie Smith Ross. On Aug. 5, 1939, she married Malcolm D. Farr in Davenport.

Mrs. Farr was a homemaker and worked at Hope Haven as a teacher aide for 10 years. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1933. She was a member of Salem Methodist Church and attended Open Bible Church in Mount Pleasant. She was a member of Salem Kitchen Band and a Hawkeye basketball fan. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, cooking and bird watching.

Survivors include one son, Jim Farr of Burlington; one daughter, Connie Weatherman of Salem; two sisters, Hope Hoyt and Virginia Boyd, both of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and four brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Farr will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Congregational Church with the Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for Salem Library Building Trust Fund.
